An online offering with Janine Schipper
First Wednesday of every month, starting on March 5, 2025
5 pm to 6:15 pm (AZ time)
Through Buddhist practices, we engage with the messiness of the world, and from this space, our lives unfold—like a blooming lotus.
In this monthly group, participants will explore applying Buddhist principles and practices to social, political, economic, and environmental issues. Through open discussion and shared reflection, participants will explore how mindfulness, compassion, and ethical awareness can inform their responses to these challenges, fostering a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Together, we will deepen our understanding of how Buddhist teachings can inspire positive change both personally and collectively.
This group is open to all, welcoming those who bring an open mind and heart, a willingness to reflect, and a commitment to deep listening.
“Under the influence of awareness, you become
more attentive, understanding, and loving,
and your presence not only nourishes you
and makes you lovelier, it enhances (others) as well.
Our entire society can be changed
by one person’s peaceful presence.”~Thich Nhat Hanh, The Sun My Heart

There is NO FEE for this offering. The teachings of the Buddha have been sustained by the 2,500 year old tradition of dana, a Pali word meaning “generosity.” Our teachers receive no compensation for their services. Participants are encouraged to support them through donations. In the act of giving, we develop our ability to let go, cultivate a spirit of caring, and honor our inter-connectedness.
To make a Dana Offering to Janine and/or FIMC, please visit the FIMC Website donation page.
Group Facilitator: Janine Schipper, FIMC Dharma Leader Janine Schipper’s training as a sociologist occurred alongside her introduction to Buddhism through the socially engaged teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. For 35 years, she has explored the intersection of Buddhism and sociology, writing about Buddhist sociology and integrating Vipassana meditation into her teaching—viewing meditation and Buddhist principles as central to fostering a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Janine approaches facilitation with a peaceful heart and a desire to explore, alongside others, ways to alleviate both individual and collective suffering.
